One Drop Zendo Dharma Ceremonies

This booklet with guidlines has been compiled by Taikan ShoE and edited by Myorin Daishi. The booklet contains the basics for all One Drop Zendos in Europe.

Rinzai Zen Ceremonies

In a Rinzai Zen Monastery the three Buddha´s cermeonies, the two ancestor ceremonies and the founder´s ceremony are being observed.

Nirvana Day

On the 15th of February Buddha Shakyamuni died in Kushinagara, India. On this day the huge scroll is being hung in Sogenji.

Hana Matsuri - flower festival

Since it is said that when Buddha Shakyamuni was born it rained flowers from the sky, on his birthday 8th of April the shrine with the little Buddha statues is decorated with flowers, the sangha pour sweet tea over the Buddha baby statues while reciting the verse:

GO KIN KAN MO SHI JI RAI

JIN SHI SO NEN KUN TE JU

U SHU SHUN SAN RIN RI KU

ZUN SHIN JI RAI JIM PA SHIN

Having poured ambrosial nectar over all Buddas

Purity, wisdom and solemnity unite with merciful virtue

May all beings be emancipated from impediments

And may we reunite with the pure Dharma body of the Buddha

Nirvana Day - Nehan E

On the 8th of December the enlightenment of Shakyamuni Buddha is being honoured after a week long sever sesshin, the Rohatsu sesshin is being held just before this day, offering our efforts to the great awakening of the Buddha. The scroll below is being hung in Sogenji, showing the Buddha coming down the mountain.

The two ancestors

Rinzai Gigen Zenji

is being honoured on the 10th of January

Bodhidharuma is being honoured on the 5th of October.

Kaisanki - Honouring the founder

The Kaisan san for all the One Drop Zendo Monasteries is Yamada Mumon Roshi who died on the 24th of December, thus this is the memorial day being oberseved in all the monasteries.
